The Business Model Hiding in Your Inbox

Rehman · September 6, 2026

Every business I've worked with has the same thing hiding in it: a process someone does by hand, every single day, that nobody has gotten around to fixing. Following up with leads. Re-entering the same data into three different tools. Answering the same five questions over email, one at a time.

Nobody builds a company around fixing that. It's not exciting. It doesn't sound like a pitch. But it's usually the most valuable thing in the building, because it's the thing costing the business money every day it stays broken.

The pattern is always the same

Someone is doing a job that a system could do faster, more consistently, and without forgetting. The business has just never stopped long enough to notice, because the work is getting done — badly, slowly, but done. That's the trap. "Good enough" is the enemy of ever fixing it.

The opportunity isn't in convincing someone their process is broken. It's in showing them what it costs to leave it that way — the leads that go cold overnight, the hours spent on work a system could do in seconds, the customer who never heard back.

Why this is a better place to look than "new ideas"

New ideas require you to convince someone something doesn't exist yet needs to. Fixing an existing broken process only requires you to show up and be faster and more reliable than what's already there. The demand already exists. Nobody has to be sold on the problem — they're living it.

This is most of what I actually do. Not inventing categories. Finding the process a business is quietly bleeding money on, and building the system that stops it.
